A major Zürich Networking Group update was last done in 2021 and listed here on this website in February 2021.

This is the follow-up for the group at the end of May 2023 as we move to a new membership year starting June 1st 2023.

A lot of work was done over the past 12 months to reach out to all who had left Zurich or Switzerland to see if being a member of our local group was to be of value to them. This resulted in the loss of 513 group members in total on LinkedIn, some remained as followers and others less than 30 as newsletter subscribers.

The Zürich Networking Group grew from 5,798 members in Feb 2021 to 7,901 members in the LinkedIn group on May 31st, 2023.

The group members percentage is geographically located as:

  • 74.72% of members have profiles showing their location is Zurich or the greater Zurich area.
  • 7.8% of members are located outside Switzerland ( was 7.1% in 2021).
  • 17.2% of members have profiles showing their location to be in Switzerland but not in Zurich.

The policy of checking profiles for local relevance and “can they attend a local in-person event” did slow the request to join the group and their acceptance rate. No-one complained when they were messaged regarding the group, a good number was surprised it was actively managed.

The moderation of all requests to join the group has kept spam and promotional posts down to a minimum. This has meant a small saving on administration time as less posts were made to the group feed by those in the LinkedIn group.

The LinkedIn group is not currently a “LinkedIn public group” that decision has yet to be finalised.

The rules to join are common sense, be able to attend an event, an obvious profile connection or a reason to join as messaged with a group manager.

LinkedIn 2023 Group Member Sector Snapshot

The list of sectors and the number of people who work in them highlights the diversity of the group membership.

A small number of business activities were chosen unlike the 2020 report which was more comprehensive.

It serves as a highlight as follows:

  • Accounting – 61
  • Alternative Medicine – 13
  • Architecture and Planning – 113
  • Automotive – 103
  • Business Supplies and Equipment – 11
  • Construction – 131
  • Defence & Space  – 7
  • Education – 220
  • Financial Services – 817
  • Government Affairs – 86
  • Human Resources – 51
  • Information and Technology – 729
  • Management Consulting – 406
  • Professional Training and Coaching – 130
  • Real Estate – 214
  • Venture Capital & Private Equity – 46
  • Warehousing – 1
What is always interesting with profiles are the LinkedIn classifications which can often be wrong because of the activity codes chosen by someone when a company page was created and never reviewed.
Those with a Sales Navigator or Enterprise LinkedIn account can of course drill down further into the group composition and its sector coverage. Banks were left off the list because with over 700 members they are at the top of member numbers.
