Last Sunday, a person who tested positive for the coronavirus three days later stayed at the Zurich thermal spa on the Hürlimann site. The Health Department of the Canton of Zurich has confirmed the case.

20 people are in quarantine for ten days as a result of contact tracing calls to many more guests because up to 200 can visit at any one time. The spa has measures in place but you cannot protect against an individual and their selfish stupidity.

5.08.2020 – Contact tracing app patent notices appearance concerning Swiss IT contributors

Ubique.ch  is generating concerns by adding copyright notices to the app and because of a problem Apple ioS integration.

Resentment is building because of the perception that the app was built with public money and its financing has not been correctly or properly explained. Many on Github have been supporting Ubique for free and coding or solving faults for them:

Bluetooth data is a concern amongst more than one developer, some are becoming a bit more vocal now on Twitter about expressing their concerns on privacy and ownership of the app.

5.08.2020 – Why are pregnant women among the people at especially high risk? – Federal Office of Public Health Statement

On the basis of the evidence currently available, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has come to the conclusion together with the Swiss Association for Gynaecology and Obstetrics (SGGG) that pregnant women are among the people at especially high risk.

The decision is based on recent studies that increasingly indicate that pregnant women who contract the new coronavirus may be at an increased risk of becoming seriously ill relative to non-pregnant women of the same age. This is a minority, however. According to studies, pregnant women who have become seriously ill have, for example, mostly been overweight, of an advanced age or had other illnesses. A severe progression of the illness can have a negative effect on the pregnant woman, the pregnancy and the unborn child.

1.08.2020 – Weird world – no fireworks and a real damp squib of a Swiss national day.

Most people have left Zurich for their holidays, yet a few brave souls tried to party on and remind us all of other times. An enjoyable night filled with sporadic firework in the sky, a small stream of rockets or a mortar bang.

They were certainly not a match to an organised local Gemeinde or Zurich City display with spectacular Diadem, Horsetail or Willow fireworks bursting over the lake sometimes to music. Note to self – 2021 agenda item.

The video below is from 2019 and was filmed by Rasmi in Kloten (yes – that one very close Zurich airport – ZRH)

1.08.2020 – Where are we? New month, what is happening? The current coronavirus situation.

July 30th as a milestone because the number of new daily coronavirus cases surpassed 200 for the first time since the end of April.

Citizens travelling from most non-Schengen countries, including the US, may not enter Switzerland except in exceptional cases. A list of non-Schengen countries not affected by this ban – 20 up to August 8 (next review) – can be found here.

Citizens and residents of Switzerland may always enter the country

From today, passengers coming from Israel, Serbia and Turkey have to undergo a Covid-19 test if they fly into Basel Airport.

Face masks are mandatory on Swiss public transport and some cantons (including Vaud, Jura and Geneva) require customers to wear face masks in shops. Airports have special passenger measures, please check with your airline if flying to Switzerland.

Larger events with over 1000 people are still banned, decisions are subject to change and local canton responsibility. Basel and Ticino have introduced their own stricter restrictions.
