This resulted in the loss of 513 group members in total on LinkedIn, some remained as followers and others less than 30 as newsletter subscribers.    The Zürich Networking Group grew from 5,798 members in Feb 2021 to 7,901 members in the LinkedIn group on May 31st, 2023.  The group members percentage is geographically located as:  74.72% of members have profiles showing their location is Zurich or the greater Zurich area. 7.8% of members are located outside Switzerland ( was 7.1% in 2021). 17.2% of members have profiles showing their location to be in Switzerland but not in Zurich.  The policy of checking profiles for

October 2020 Unemployment News and Company Job Cuts Switzerland

October Unemployment figures from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) awaited. October 2020 Job Cut Announcements 30/10/2020 Swarovski shareholders approve 6,000 job cuts and hundreds of store closures Swarovski shareholders approved the biggest overhaul in the crystal maker’s 125-year history, including 6,000 job cuts, after years of heated discussions among factions of the founding family. The decision means various Austrian and Swiss units will be folded into an Austrian family company with the headquarters remaining in the Alpine town of Wattens, near Innsbruck. The new structure should allow faster decisions about new products, personnel and investments, management has said. While legal disputes are likely to follow, the company has said it won’t stop the process. Buchbauer has said the company needs to offer fewer but more exclusive items under its own brand, and cut back its network of 3,000 boutiques. The 6,000 previously announced job cuts equal about 20% of Swarovski’s workforce. The turnaround will take two to three years to execute as sales are expected to fall by about a third this year. 09 2020 – Zurich Networking Group Newsletter

Contents Welcome website reader,  This is a copy of our personalised member newsletter sent monthly. September 2020 – Our Zurich Networking Group Community Update 3 Speakers – 3 Very Different Topics Hi, I thought I would  give a quick update and explain where we are at the start of September. A clean up of the LinkedIn group was completed over the summer, it now numbers 3,984 members today.  Why do this? The group dates back to 2009 and after 11 years, it is good group community practice to ask inactive, never posted to the group members, “do you still want to be a member of the group?” 147 people decided retirement, or just to be on the newsletter, simply not interested or have left Zurich were stated reasons to leave. The Zurich Networking  Group Website visitor numbers are improving again from the super “low” of 2020 April and May. There were days when visitors were in the low 10s which is understandable as people navigate coronatimes.  In July and August our year on year visitor trend line is lower but following the same trend month on month for 2019 which bodes well for the future. Events going forward will develop to introduce more co-hosted or Supporter

2020 Zurich unemployment and job cuts

August 2020 Unemployment News and Company Job Cuts Switzerland Report

The latest employment figures show that 85,000 fewer people are employed now than at the same time in 2019. This is the biggest year on year decline since 1993. The second quarter federal labour statistics late August show a 1.6% reduction in employed people in Switzerland compared with this time last year. The drop was slightly higher for women than for men (1.7% and 1.5% respectively). Those in partial unemployment are not classified as out of work, in the statistics. The over 50 long-term unemployed and those off the RAV register seeking work are also not included. The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) said weekly hours per employed person fell by 9.5% in this period and there is a gender imbalance as more women were impacted. 223,000 people are now unemployed – that’s 17,000 more than 2019. Young people (15-24 years old) were particularly affected by the crisis: while the unemployment rate for the whole population climbed from 4.2% to 4.6%, it increased from 6.2% to 8.4% for this segment. Between the second quarter of 2019 and the second quarter of 2020, the number of employed Swiss nationals fell by 2.4%, however when residents with permits are reviewed, there were some

Corona Virus Zurich Update

Zurich Facemask Wearing Update and Mandatory in Shops

Zurich follows Basel as the second German-speaking canton to require customers to wear face masks in shops and shopping centres due to the spread of the new coronavirus. The new rule is effective in Zurich from August 27. It was expected because it already applies in the cantons of Vaud, Geneva and  Neuchâtel in the French-speaking regions. A rise in cases in recent weeks meant the seven-day rolling average for Switzerland reached 257.4 new cases per day, a 19% increase from the previous week. The canton of Zurich is currently the worst-affected region – a 27% increase from the previous week as the virus spreads rapidly amongst those aged below 40 years of age. In addition to the face masks in shops, Zurich restaurants will be obliged to collect customers’ contact details to assist with tracing. Name and phone number will be collected which in some ways is great news for marketeers who can add these clients into a CRM system for later follow-up. Stricter measures have also been introduced for clubs, bars and restaurants, where a 100-person limit will be tolerated for inside. Larger events and gatherings are possible for up to 300 people, but only with social distancing
